“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Have you ever been tired from work or school and you know you are not finished yet? Or maybe you feel like all you ever do is put out fires around you. Does the phrase “punch drunk” describe your emotional state? Well this verse from Mathew may help.
I have put in bold black letters what we most likely turn our attention to, the rain and the floods. Interesting, bad comes no matter what in both cases, whether you build your house on the rock or the sand. What then you might say? Since the rain and floods come no matter what I build my house on, then a really bleak outlook on life remains.
Maybe it is not the rain and floods we should be paying attention to at all. If we are not careful we can run our lives in the rain and floods of life and in the end we become bitter and forget about what Christ has done for us. You see, if you put your faith and trust in the Lord you will not be shaken. The Bible says “you will not fall” because your focus is on the rock rather than the rain and floods.
There is only one way to stand under pressure, it is on the rock. If you are tired of everything moving around when you put your trust in it and it just gets destroyed when pressure is applied then maybe you need to step on the rock. We may crumble under pressure but the Rock, Jesus, holds us up.
Today pray and ask God to show you the sandy areas of your faith and Christian walk. You might be surprised at how much sand you have been putting your trust in instead of the solid rock foundation of Jesus.
