“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”
The book of Chronicles starts off with 10 chapters of genealogy. Not being able to pronounce most of the names in this exhaustive list, you will run across Jabez and few others that might ring some bells of familiarity.
Chapter 10 briefs us about the end of Saul and the beginning of David. Saul was impatient and did not wait on God when he first became king and took matters into his own hands. Most of the kings of ancient Israel did evil in sight of the Lord and did not walk in his ways. Saul was the first example of this by being unfaithful, not keeping the word of the Lord, and even consulted a medium for guidance. Saul originally disobeyed God and offered burnt sacrifices before Samuel arrived because he could not wait.
What do you do when timing is not on your side? I often catch myself jumping forward to make things happen because, in my eyes, I can see a storm coming and I begin to prepare to avoid it. We can prepare all we want to but there is a point at which we must trust in the Lord. The Bible tells us the Holy Spirit will be our guide. The beginning of trusting in the Lord is how well you know God’s word and how He speaks? It is like being in math class and wanting help with a problem. If you go to the social studies teacher they may not be skilled in math enough to answer your question. The best way to get the help you need is when you go to the math teacher, the one who knows more about your problem than you do.
Most people, when dealing with life’s math problems go to their friends for guidance who are just as clueless as they are. They get guidance but often it does not result in the answer they need and because they don’t know the right answer. They are satisfied with the wrong answer until life’s tests get graded and it is revealed that the answer was wrong. We all must come to the conclusion that God, the perfect math teacher knows more than we do and sometimes our friend’s counsel will lead us back to where we started, still wanting.
God is waiting to speak to us and helping us stay on the right path in life through reading the Bible. This time, consult God and read his word. Get to know the Lord day by day. Saul’s life was not a happy one and ended badly. You could be suffering from your bad grades on life’s test just like Saul by not waiting on the Lord. You are created by God. He is the author and perfecter of your faith. He has all the answers you are looking for. All you have to do is invite Him in. Failing life’s tests is a point God uses to show us His hand of mercy. You are never too far gone out of reach for the mighty hand of God.
