“Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.”
I know this never happens in our house because we have a great cook, my wife, but have you ever walked in a kitchen and smelled something cooking and was like—-holy cow that smells nasty. I can guarantee you that no matter how the meal looks it is hard to get over the smell.
Psalm 7:14 is a great analogy to sin in our lives. We all know what pregnancy is, so then what is disillusionment? The definition is “a feeling of disappointment resulting from the discovery that something is not as good as one believed it to be.” The Bible says that sin is fun for a season but just like verse 14 says, it gives birth to disillusionment, and right alongside the disillusionment is trouble.
You might say that all sounds great Doug, I can tell you that I am not birthing trouble or have any disillusionment, in fact things are cool right now. We always have to watch what we are digesting every day. You see when you are pregnant, at first, you cannot even tell for a period of time. In fact, many women have gone into the second trimester dismissing the pregnancy. Before long it is apparent and everyone knows you have a bun in the oven. That bun will get to the point where you just want it to come out.
Sin in your life can often be unnoticed and thrown off as nothing. Before you know it you are changing your habits because of it. It is all OK until you notice this sin is noticeable to everyone around you and you just want it out of your life, but that won’t happen. You now have conceived trouble and soon to follow is disillusionment. The overpowering truth is that this sin is not as good as it used to look and does not feel good like it used to.
What’s cooking in your life? Does it smell bad when other people notice it? Do you hide it? Do you even notice it at all? Pray that the God of heaven makes sin detestable to you to the point that it smells horrid. Pray that God will cleanse you and keep you from cooking up evil in your life.
