Blinded to Sin

1 Kings 11:11-14

“So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.

Then the Lord raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.”

As I was reading this morning about what God was going to do to Solomon because of him falling away from God, I was prompted to pray.  Solomon let the very thing that God blessed him with blind him to his own sin.

Sometimes are blessed to have wisdom or understanding about how things work and that is a good thing.  I often run across geologists who are gifted in understanding concepts about finding oil and gas, but they have been working by themselves for so long and they think all of their own work is amazing.  In reality, it is an incomplete compilation of ideas with no direction. They are blinded by their own ideas.

Today my prayer for you is to realize that God is the only one who makes all your talents work for you. By His mighty hand is the only way all your work prospers into anything at all.  We can all get caught up in our own understanding of events and life, but all that understanding without God in middle of your judgment process is futile.

God has spoken through His word, the Bible.  If nothing else read the Bible Promises book.  We are God’s handy work made and created to shine for Him and proclaim the good news of the gospel. We cannot do that without first knowing what is in His Word. It is what sheds light on our weak spots.

Holy Spirit, I ask that you reveal God’s revelation to everyone in my family concerning the things of God.  Open their eyes to what you are doing and for all of us to rest in your peace in the middle of your handy work. Amen.
