More Than Enough

Exodus 36:7

“because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.”

This never happens but it would be funny if you were watching the Pioneer Women cook something that sounded good and your mouth was already salivating over the thought of tasting it and suddenly she pauses, looks around frantically, and says “we don’t have all the ingredients to make this!” This is not what happens because the producers of the show make sure that she has more than enough to do all the cooking.

In this passage, we see Moses telling the people to stop giving free will offerings to the Lord because they had all they needed. They were not making some great dish to eat but rather gathering things to make the tabernacle of God. In other words, Moses was acting like the Pioneer Women here. He was the face of God for the people. Moses is what the people saw as God’s representation and they acted in step as to what Moses told them to do. In fact, it says that the offerings were given to the Lord as free will offerings. This means that the people wanted to give to the Lord out of the goodness of their heart not out of obligation. When they did that, they had more than enough.

Let me ask you something.  Are you in the land of lack?  Has your life been on a vacuum mode consuming all your thoughts and never getting rest?  Have you felt like your projects go unfinished because there is never enough to finish?  One correlation we all need to see is this; if we freely give to the Lord and stay focused on being about His business, He will be about ours.  Mathew 6:33 says to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

What have you been spending your time doing?  When you devote yourself to getting to know God he will provide everything you need and provide peace that passes your understanding as well.  A farmer once said “you can’t grow anything if don’t first plant a seed.”  Don’t get caught watering ground that does not have any seed.  Your time and effort will be blessed if it is directed towards God’s business. I never once planted weeds in all the gardens I have looked after, they just seem to start growing among the plants I want to grow.

Focusing your life on Christ is tending a garden every day. You nurture the plants you want to grow and pull out the weeds. Those weeds never become too much to handle because they are pulled up when you first see them. More than enough starts with time everyday in God’s word, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit will begin to direct you to the weeds before they become too much to handle. Proverbs 3: 9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” Stand on the promises of God and you will always have enough.
