The Law

Exodus 25-31

Wow what a detailed set of plans.  Reading this reminds me of purchasing something from IKEA.  As you walk through the maze, that is IKEA, all the good looking furniture pieces, lamps, and accessories take your eye as you plan out your purchases and how it will look in your house.  You take the card next to the piece you want and on it is a row and bin number.  At the end of the maze you get all your pieces you want to purchase; get the pieces and bring them back to your house. Here is where it gets difficult.  Your new dresser is nothing more than some wood planks and ton of screws along with parts you have not clue what to do with.

As Christians we often do the same thing.  Sunday morning we get the IKEA treatment and it all looks good, we may even plan out some changes in our studying or think about changes we may see need to happen.  As soon as we leave the church, our IKEA showroom experience turns into a warehouse of issues that don’t look like the picture. Worse than that, when we get home our lives seem to blow up into pieces we don’t have a clue what to do with.  Here is the good part, deep down in the package you find some paper documents and you open them up and wallah, you have a set of plans that outlines how to put your dresser together.  So you start following the plans and soon enough, your dresser takes shape and after some hours later you gaze upon a finished work.

Friends, God gives us the plans in His word called the Bible.  If you start studying the plans, your life will start to take shape and might even resemble something like what you saw yourself as on Sunday morning.  We often have this to say when we cannot figure out something we have purchased “Where are the instructions?”  How long will you continue to fidget with your life until you realize that the creator of your life gave you a set of plans and instructions. Yes, in it shows everything on how you are put together properly and even what to do when things go not as planned.

Today, treat the Bible as your instructional guide to life because we need the one who designed us to show us how we should operate.  When you put your life together without God it is like putting together a dresser from IKEA without instructions.  You may get it looking like the picture but we all know you still have some parts that came with package you should of used.

Father, today open our eyes to your Word and let us see through your Holy Spirit the instructions it has for us in every situation.  Amen.
