Paul’s Defense

Acts 26:27

“King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.”

Above is a link to an article outlining who King Agrippa was.  Paul made his defense to King Agrippa before being sent to Rome and before Emperor Nero.  The whole story began in Acts chapter 21 where Paul states “After we had torn ourselves away from them” he sets out for Jerusalem.  The story ends when Paul loses his life under Nero after being put under house arrest in Rome.  If you have some time it would be a great read, just pick it up in chapter 21 and read until the end of Acts.  I stopped after chapter 26 but plan to read the rest of the book carefully.

As a Christian, we can look back and read about great men like Paul and his defense.  He sounds very polished and wise for a traveling preacher if you didn’t know his background.  His message has never changed, he preached Christ’s crucifixion and His resurrection from the dead spreading the gospel of grace to the Gentiles and Jews all across the Mediterranean sea rim of nations.  His ministry ended in AD 68, some 35 years after Jesus was taken into heaven.  In that short amount of time the gospel of Christ was spread to the known world.  I am writing these devotionals because of people like Paul.

Today take some time to gather your thoughts and reflect on your journey with Christ.  How did it start?  Who prayed for you?  What moves of God have you seen or witnessed?  Which preacher or teacher did God use to open your eyes and heart to new things about God?  We read about Paul and his defense but what is your defense?  If you were to find yourself in the company of a King Agrippa what would you say?

Paul tried to convert the king by just telling him his testimony.  The Bible says we overcome by the blood of lamb and word of our testimony.  What is your word of testimony?  Have you polished your defense of that testimony and how Christ changed your life?  At my men’s group last night a man told us about a great testimony of his wife wanting God in her heart, it was a whopper of a testimony and we were a part of it.  We had been praying for her for over a year.  What has God done in your life and who can you share it with?
