“Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”
I love going out to eat. The hard part is choosing where to go. When you are really hungry it seems anything will do. The closest restaurant or snacks at the house will do as well. It seems that eating is the one thing we all have in common no matter where you live or what you do.
God is presenting His covenant with Noah in chapter 9. Interestingly enough, it starts out with the dominion of man over all of God’s creation and what God gives Noah the OK to eat. Why would he tell Noah what to eat? This is a striking and puzzling concept. In verses 4 and 5, it states that they were not to eat meat with the lifeblood still in it. Also, it goes on to say that He will give an account of each human being and not to shed human blood. You need to read this several times to see the context. Later on in the Bible, Moses gets a download from God on what food to stay away from. In the New Testament, Peter gets another download from the Lord blessing the eating of the unclean foods that Moses wrote down to avoid.
Believe it or not, God is concerned about what we eat and drink. The Bible says that we are set apart. We are a holy nation and our citizenship is in heaven. God was showing Noah that even what we eat is a testimony of our faith in the Lord. It may seem kind of trivial but it is all around us. Dwayne Johnson posts his daily diet to follow if you want to be huge like him. We have the cooking channels, food critics and Instagramers that come to your restaurant and either bless your food or condemn it.
Eating is a big part of what we humans do. Without getting into the diet diatribe zone think for a moment that what if your eating habits reflected the God you serve? It did for the Israelites; stay away from unclean foods, don’t eat pork, etc. Some of us have an issue with eating, whether it is too much or refusing to eat the things that will be healthy for our bodies. Today, think about your diet and put it in the prayer zone. Ask the Lord to help you choose wisely and ask Him to give you the space to make that a part of your testimony. He would not have talked to Noah about what to eat if it did not make a difference in the way we live. After all, God made us, so why don’t we choose to invite Him into our eating habits?
